Social media stars who shine in Sonoma County

Social media stars who shine in Sonoma County | LGBT New Media | Scoop.it

Amy Lieberfarb, a wine and food blogger, and Adam Shindledecker, a photographer who runs a group called Instagramers of the North Bay. Together, the three have a combined following of more than 150,000 on Instagram and Twitter, the two popular social media networks that daily are used by an estimated 340 million people around the world.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

The trio are not the most followed social media users hailing from Sonoma County, a distinction that belongs to celebrity chef Guy Fieri, tech pioneer Tim O’Reilly and cellist and activist Zoë Keating, each with more than a million followers. What differentiates Taylor, Lieberfarb and Decker is their focus: online conversations about our region with people all over the world, helping form virtual communities revolving around shared passions of food, wine and photography. They are among about a dozen Sonoma County residents with expansive social media followings that Tim Zahner, the chief marketing officer for Sonoma County Tourism, considers social media influencers.

How Companies Will Use Social Media In 2017

How Companies Will Use Social Media In 2017 | LGBT New Media | Scoop.it

THE SOCIAL PARADOX - Social media is more pervasive than ever and poised for a unique metamorphosis. It's about to be reborn over the course of this year as a hyperfocused business tool—more targeted, simpler to use, and possibly more effective than before.

Matt Skallerud's insight:

If that sounds Pollyanna-ish, think again. A curious thing has happened as companies’ ability to reach users organically on social media has tanked: The power of social media to influence buying decisions has surged. In one of the most comprehensive studies to date, McKinsey recently surveyed 20,000 consumers in Europe and found that social recommendations are behind more than a quarter of all purchases made. This is well above the 10% to 15% that's been estimated in earlier research. And in the majority of cases, the McKinsey report found, these social updates had a direct impact on buying decisions.

Learn about San Francisco Travel’s “always on” approach to content marketing

Learn about San Francisco Travel’s “always on” approach to content marketing | LGBT New Media | Scoop.it
Dan Rosenbaum of San Francisco Travel explains the destination's move toward "always on" content marketing.
Matt Skallerud's insight:

Learn about San Francisco Travel’s “always on” approach to content marketing - Destination Think! - It can be easy for any organization to become siloed and lose sight of its goals.

Dan Rosenbaum, Senior Manager of Content and Social Media Marketing, faced exactly this challenge with his team at San Francisco Travel (SFT) in 2013. At that time, the team’s primary objective was to drive traffic to the SFT website, but a lack of alignment between consumer marketing, social media, PR, and email marketing departments meant that each team was creating its own content, and no one was coordinating the effort.

Dan’s team at SFT knew that it needed to set more meaningful goals and communicate to its audience effectively with relevant content, so they changed the way they thought about content marketing in order to promote their destination successfully and work as a team.
